Vulnerable Democrats Try Straddle On 'Obamacare'

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats in tough re-election races are performing a high-stakes political straddle as they try to fend off attacks over President Barack Obama's signature health care law.

They claim bragging rights for the popular parts of the law, want credit for trying to fix the problematic elements and accuse Republicans of trying to reverse its crackdown on insurance industry abuses.

The voters' reactions could go a long way toward determining which party wins control of the Senate in next fall's elections.

Republicans need to gain six seats for a majority, and they and their allies are already placing the law at the center of their efforts in several states.
