DE State Police Investigate Fatal Crash North Of Milton

MILTON, Del. - The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit say they are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred north of Milton Friday evening.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 6:10 PM as Charles E. Moore Jr. was operating a 1991 Buick LeSabre northbound on Cedar Creek Road just south of Isaacs Road (SR30) at an apparent high rate of speed.  While attempting to negotiate a moderate left curve, the Buick reportedly exited the right side of the roadway.  Police say Moore overcorrected resulting in the vehicle crossing over the southbound lanes and exit the west side of the roadway while rotating in a counter clockwise manner.  The right rear side of the LeSabre then reportedly struck a utility pole completely severing the rear portion of the car.  The front portion of the car then began to spin violently clockwise reportedly ejecting both Charles Moore and his wife, Ruth A. Moore, from the opening of the automobile.  Police say both were properly restrained.

Police say Charles Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.  Ruth Moore was reportedly initially transported to Milford Memorial Hospital but was later flown to Christiana Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit says they are continuing their investigation into this incident.  Cedar Creek Road between SR30 and Reynolds Pond Road were reportedly closed for approximately three and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
