UPDATE: One Dead After House Fire In Salisbury

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md - The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office has released the names of the victims in Friday morning's Patrick Avenue house fire in Salisbury. Officials say 66-year-old William Holdbrooke Jr., known to friends as Boomer, succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire, and 41-year-old Mary Holdbrook is currently in critical condition at the hospital. Authorities say one neighbor has been displaced because of the blaze, which started around 4:57 AM.

Officials are currently looking for a cause, but preliminary reports say the fire was accidental.

Assistant Chief Bryan Records describes the damage to the house as extensive, also saying, "...we've actually had a collapse in the rear of the roof. The one bedroom is burned out pretty much to the floor. "

"Our medic units worked both of them until they got to the hospital and when they got there the doctors at PRMC declared the one victim deceased," said Records.

Records tells WMDT that firefighters got the call just before 5PM, dousing out the flames about 90 minutes later.

As of 12PM, both Salisbury Fire Department and Maryland State Fire Marshals left the scene. Firefighters will reportedly go door-to-door in the neighborhood sometime on Friday or Saturday, making sure everyone has a working fire detector.

Gladys Sessons, a nearby neighbor says the woman went over to her house just a few days ago, a frequently went to the same church.

"It's just sad, you know, because it's somebody that you know," said Sessons. "Any life that's lost is sad, but you know when it's close and you know it's that close it just let's you know that you never know what could happen."

Records confirms that the victims' 17-year-old daughter was not inside at the time of the fire. Also, the fire departments confirms dogs were inside the house and didn't make it out.
