UMES Celebrates Black History Month W/ Art Exhibit

Posted: Updated:

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is celebrating Black History Month with a new exhibit from College Park.

The exhibit features 30 pieces of art, spanning eight decades, with varying themes, styles, and types of media.  It's said to embody a cross section of African American History.

On the importance of this type of art exhibit, gallery director Susan Holt says "it really is important people especially young people, now, to realize how many hurdles African American artists had to overcome in order to get recognition."

The exhibition will be open for free, through March 14th.

On February 25th, one of the artists, David Driskell will hold a gallery talk at UMES at 3p.m, about his collection and life work.

All events in conjunction with the exhibit are free and open to the public.
