Goodwill’s Career Center Scholarships

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Goodwill's Lower Shore Career Center is living up to its name, not only offering career development services, but also scholarships to cover the cost.

If you're worried that you'll have to gather transcripts and letters of recommendation, fear not -- this isn't that kind of scholarship.

Candidates need only a few key things to enroll.

"They have to pass a CASA test, which is a basic math and reading at an 8th grade level…once they have passed that, it doesn't matter about their income. It doesn't matter about their educational level, whether they have a GED or not. It's just that they have the willingness to learn," says Phyllis Hardy of Goodwill.

The Center offers skills training to prepare students to get jobs in clerical and office settings. The curriculum includes computer training for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as the basics of what it takes to work in an office, things like business etiquette and records management.

Students will also learn how to create effective resumes, and how to interview to land that job!

"We have a case manager that works with them, to help eliminate all those other barriers: clothing, transportation, criminal backgrounds, all of those things that would inhibit them from getting a job," adds Phyllis.

New classes start every 3 months. Interested parties can stop by the center in person at 700 South Salisbury Boulevard, or call 410-219-9118.
