DELAWARE - As of January 31,2014, 6,458 Delawareans have enrolled in health care coverage through expanded Medicaid and the Marketplace since October 1,2013.
More than 700 of those people in Kent and Sussex counties were newly eligible for Medicaid. More than 1,300 in Sussex and nearly 600 people in Kent County enrolled through the Marketplace. Although these numbers are far from the original goal of enrolling 35,000 Delawareans, officials say they don't want to focus on a quota..
"What's important for me is to continue to do a level of awareness and outreach and provide support to Delawareans to not only understand the Affordable Care Act, but also what benefits would meet their health issues as well as their affordability," Delaware Health and Social Services Secretary Rita Landgraf said
A lot of that outreach is going to focus on what they call the "young invincibles" --people between the ages of 18 and 34. We're told new media spots will be released with testimonials of "young invincibles" who have already enrolled.
