MD Senate Hears Mental Health & Substance Use Bill

Posted: Updated:

MARYLAND - Mental health is getting a big push in the Maryland General Assembly.

On Wednesday, the Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Safety Net Act had a hearing before the senate. The bill pushes for an increase in treatment and funding to ensure that the behavioral health system is adequate. Some of the key issues addressed in the bill include mental health services in public schools, and mental health literacy and awareness across the state.

Groups such as the Behavioral Health Coalition, made up of health officials and families across the state, along with the Mental Health Association of Maryland, hope the bill at least raises awareness for the need.

For more information on the bill, visit the Mental Health Association of Maryland website.
