SALISBURY, Md. - A Salisbury man has been arrested, after allegedly stealing a vehicle out of a driveway.

Salisbury Police say on Tuesday morning, just before 7:00 AM, they were called to a home on Dover Street, in reference to the theft of a vehicle. The victim told Police that he had started his vehicle in the driveway, left it running, and unlocked in the driveway, while he went back inside the home.

According to the report, while the victim was inside, he saw an unknown person drive his vehicle out of the driveway. The victim then called Police while reportedly following the suspect in another vehicle. Officers on patrol observed the stolen vehicle driving erratically, and fast on Route 13, near E. Church Street, and attempted to pull it over, but it fled, until colliding with a pole on Snow Hill Road at E. Vine Street.

Police say the driver, 28-year-old Charles Whitfield Jr., fled on foot, but was taken into custody. He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, failure to obey lawful order, resisting arrest, and obstructing and hindering. Whitfield was released to the custody of Central Booking.
