DE Girl In Waterboarding Case Says She Has Lied

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - A girl who says she was waterboarded by her mother's companion, a former pediatrician, has acknowledged lying several times about her treatment at home and whether she told authorities about what she says was abuse.

Under cross-examination Tuesday in the trial of 60-year-old Melvin Morse, the girl says she lied to authorities in 2010 when she told them she had been sexually molested by a female relative in late 2009. But she maintained that a previous molestation involving the same relative did happen.

Jurors also heard conflicting statements from the girl about whether she told school officials or friends about the alleged waterboarding by Morse, who is charged with endangerment and assault.

Morse has researched near-death experiences involving children. He denies police claims that he may have used waterboarding to experiment on the girl.
