Sussex Co. Council Rejects Excessive Barking Dog Ordinance

SUSSEX CO., Del. - The Sussex County Council has rejected the "Excessive Barking Dog Ordinance."

After months of discussion on how to penalize owners with noisy dogs, the council reportedly discovered that a state law already exists. Now, any residents with complaints about the noise are reportedly directed to the appropriate local or state law enforcement agency under the Delaware Noise Control Act.

Delaware State Police tell WMDT while it is a law, they did not have to issue a single citation in 2013. Police say in a majority of the cases, the are able to speak with the dog owner and no further action is necessary.
