Pennsylvania Students Study DE Vlasic Site

MILLSBORO, Del. - Discussion over the proposed Allen Harim chicken plant in Millsboro Delaware has crossed into Pennsylvania.

A group of environmental studies students from Wilson College in Chambersburg, is using the issue as the topic for their senior project.

The four students and two professors from the class were in the Possum Point community this weekend, near where the former Vlasic pickle plant, and proposed Allen Harim chicken processing plant is located. The students spend the weekend speaking with residents opposed to the plant, and plan to reach out to supporters and government officials.

"Definitely the hardest part of studying this issue is you know, determining what's best for the community and also preserving the environment," says Derrick Group, a Wilson College senior involved in the project.

Their Environmental Studies professor, Ed Wells said "no environmental issue is neat and clean, there's always disagreements and we're seeing those disagreements down here."

The professor from Wilson College says their goal isn't to produce recommendations for either side, rather, they plan to build a complete report, so that others may draw their own conclusions.
