UPDATE: Power Restored After Two Morning Outages In West Salisbury

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. - Thousands of Wicomico County residents were without power for some time twice Thursday morning.

According to reports for the first outage, power went out 6:23 AM. Officials say the final count of those impacted was 5,471 customers in West Salisbury, Quantico, and Tyaskin. The outage reportedly began after a transmission problem occurred at the substation on Pemberton Drive. Power was restored at 7:46 AM.

They say that those same 5,471 customers in that area had their power go out for a second time at approximately 11:46 AM. Crews quickly worked on the issue and restored power yet again for those customers in the early afternoon hours.

Officials say the cause of the outage was the cold temperatures, which put high demand and stress on the system, and caused a failure within their equipment at a substation. Those crews had power restored to customers at 12:26 PM.
