Salisbury Teen Sentenced In 2012 Wicomico County Murder

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A Salisbury teen has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in an armed robbery, which led to the murder of 23-year-old Andres Aguilera.

A judge suspended all but 30 years of 18-year-old Gerard Williams Jr's life sentence. The Court also ordered Williams to serve an additional 10 consecutive years for attempting to rob Aguilera's  friend, then 16-year-old Edgar Alvarez, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head during the incident.

During his trial, it was shown that Williams did not shoot his firearm while on the scene. However, he did confess to hitting Alvarez over the head with his loaded .38 caliber revolver.  A felony murder conviction only requires a person was present and a willing participant during a felony crime, like armed robbery, which results in a murder.  No premeditation is necessary.

Wicomico County State's Attorney Matt Maciarello tells WMDT that Williams is expected to return to court in the near future to face 2nd degree assault charges, after law enforcement officials claim he physically attacked a prison guard at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
