Church Up In Flames, Members Melting Icy Steps W/ Heater

Posted: Updated:

PRESTON, Md. - A centuries old church in Caroline County went up in flames Saturday morning, the result of an attempt to melt ice on the front steps.

This is the aftermath of the blaze at the Faith Fellowship Church in Preston Maryland.

It started just before 10:30 Saturday morning, when members of Faith Fellowship Church used a torch style heater to melt ice on the front steps.

They tell WMDT the siding caught fire, and wind spread the flames, engulfing the structure.  Damages are estimated at about $300,000, and no one was injured.

"Its inconvenient perhaps, but still, our inconvenience is only one thing He uses to draw us closer to Him," says the church pastor Buddy Dunn, "it could've been a whole lot different.  The whole building could've fallen during a wind storm and us be in it, so, it's ok."

Dunn says they will be having service this Sunday, at his house.

We're told the community is already coming together, offering the church help and temporary places to hold services until they figure out how to move forward.
