Snow Picks Up On Mid-Shore, Residents Scramble For Supplies

Posted: Updated:

MARYLAND - Snow started to accumulate in the mid-shore area Tuesday afternoon. Crews were out covering the Eastern Shore of Maryland since 3 a.m., pre-treating the roadways. Residents were out preparing too, scrambling to get supplies.

"I plan on being indoors!" Quinn Copper of Cambridge, Md. said.

Milk, check! Bread, check! A good movie, check, check!

"We have out eggs, toilet paper and all those necessities," April Reid of Cambridge, Md. said.

As the snow continues to build up, folks on Delmarva are preparing for the worst.
"Make sure that I have my water, flashlight, batteries and everything ready to go!" Vernetter Pinder of Linkwood, Md. said.

"It's going to be a lot of snow, so I'm not liking it!" Copper said.

But it seems the little ones are excited and ready to have a blast.

"I'm going to make a snowman!" Isaiah Copper of Cambridge said.

"I'm going to throw snow balls!" Joshua Copper of Cambridge said.

As customers pack into stores gathering food and supplies, more than 200 salt trucks in Wicomico, Dorchester and Talbot counties are out treating the roadways and plowing the snow.

"We have over 11,000 tons of salt on hand. We expect the crews to be out at least until midnight and they'll stay out as long as its snowing. We advise motorists to not use the roadways unless its absolutely necessary," Maryland State Highway Administration District Community Liaison Gee Williams said.

So, stay home, relax and let crews do their job.

"I'm just going to lay back and ride it on out," Richard Allsup of Cambridge, Md. said.
