FEDERALSBURG, Md. - A structure fire leads to a drug bust in Caroline County.

The incident occurred Monday around 2PM on the 100 block of North University Avenue. According to the State Fire Marshal's office, it took 30 firefighters 20 minutes to control the fire that broke out at a two story, wood framed, vacant single family dwelling. The blaze was ruled as accidental, caused by an overloaded extension chord.

While the fire was being suppressed, a marijuana growing operation was discovered within the structure. Federalsburg Police along with the Caroline County Drug Task Force were notified and a search warrant was obtained . Authorities say a significant amount of marijuana was seized, as well as equipment necessary for a growing operation.
