Fight Against Proposed Phosphorus Mgmt. Tool Continues In MD

Posted: Updated:

MARYLAND - The fight continues on the proposed Phosphorus Management Tool in Maryland.

Bill Satterfield, executive director of Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc., says a group is heading to Annapolis on Tuesday for a hearing on the proposed tool.

Farmers say the tool could potentially limit the amount of phosphorus they use in their fertilizer. In many cases, farmers use chicken manure, which tends to be high in phosphorus. This brings major concern for those involved in the chicken poultry industry across Delmarva.

Now, those against the regulation are proposing a bill that will require the Maryland Department of Agriculture to do an "economic analysis" before moving ahead with the regulation.
