DE State Police Arrest Newark Man For Drugs, Weapons
NEWARK, Del. - Delaware State Police say they have arrested a Newark man for weapon and drug offenses after he failed to stop for a traffic violation and crashed his van.
According to reports, State Police Detectives with the New Castle County Drug Task Force concluded an on-going drug investigation into Reginald M. Kornegay after observing him traveling southbound on I95 near the Pennsylvania line in a light blue Dodge Caravan with a registration violation. A trooper, in a fully marked patrol vehicle, reportedly initiated a traffic stop by activating the emergency lights, but the vehicle continued southbound attempting to elude the pursing troopers. Police say the van eventually crashed on Whitaker Road, north of Old Baltimore Pike, where Kornegay was taken into custody without further incident. A search of the vehicle allegedly yielded one bag of heroin and two cigars containing marijuana.
Detectives say they obtained a search warrant of Kornegay's residence located in the unit block of Abbey Lane, Abbey Walk Apartments, where they located 28.6 grams of marijuana, packaged for distribution, a sawed-off shotgun, and over $10,000 in suspected drug proceeds. Police say some of the money was hidden under a 4-year-old child's dresser that resides in the apartment.
Reginald Kornegay was reportedly transported back to Troop 2 where he was formally charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin, Possessing a Destructive Weapon, Disregarding a Police Officer's Signal, Possession of Heroin, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and numerous other traffic related offenses. Police say he was arraigned at JP11 and committed to HRYCI on $33,000.00 cash bond.
