Ocean Pines Man Accused Of Armed Robbery And Posing As Police Officer

WORCESTER CO., Md. - An Ocean Pines man is behind bars, after he apparently posed as a Police Officer in West Ocean City, and then robbed a woman at gunpoint.

On January 8th, around 7:30 AM both Maryland State Police and Worcester County Sheriff's Office were called to Larry's Trading Post in West Ocean City, by a silent alarm activation. An investigation showed that a white male, wearing a black suit, a black hat, and black gloves, walked into the store and identified himself as a Police Officer, and asked to inspect some of the handguns in the store. When the store owner asked to see the man's police credentials, the subject told the store owner that he needed to go to his car, at which time he quickly left the area in a 2014 white Dodge Avenger, according to the report.

Police say later that evening, around 11:50 PM, they were called to a bank on Racetrack Road in Berlin, after a woman using the ATM was approached by a white male holding a black rifle with a scope. The woman reportedly fled the area, and contacted Police, telling that the man got out of white Dodge Avenger before approaching her.

Police say they searched the area, and that a Worcester County Sheriff's Deputy located the vehicle a short time later. The driver, 29-year-old Cory Richardson, was arrested, and during questioning Police say they learned that Richardson had also been at Larry's Trading Post. Richardson's clothes and gun were seized.

He was charged with armed robbery, handgun on person, personating a police officer, assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment, firearm use in violent crime, and handgun in a vehicle. Richardson is being held on $250,000 bond.
