Wood Named Interim Smyrna Police Chief

Posted: Updated:

SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Lt. Norman Wood has been named Smyrna's interim police chief .

Officials named Wood to the post at Monday's town council meeting. He steps in for Wilbert Bordley, who retired as police chief to take a teaching position at Delaware Technical Community College. Wood says he does not want the job full time.

Mayor Joanne Masten says the search for the next chief is expected to take two to three months.

The council voted to enlist the help of the Delaware Police Chiefs' Council to conduct the search. Masten says the process will not cost the town anything and will be mostly in the hands of professionals who are more familiar with the position.
