Delaware Breaks Record Low Temperatures

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Temperatures are breaking record lows in Delaware.
    
The National Weather Service reports the temperature was just 4 degrees at New Castle Airport just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, breaking a breaking a record low of 10 degrees 1942 and matched in 1988. The wind chill was minus 14 degrees.
    
The weather service reports that the temperature dipped to 8 degrees around 7 a.m. at Sussex County Airport in Georgetown. That breaks a record low of 9 degrees set in 1988. The wind chill was minus 6 degrees.
    
Delaware officials opened "Code Purple" shelters in New Castle and Sussex counties to help homeless people find shelter from the extreme cold.
    
Forecasters have issued wind chill advisories through Wednesday morning.
