UPDATE: Identity Released In Fatal Millsboro Crash

MILLSBORO, Del. - Police have released the identity of a man killed in a crash in Millsboro on Saturday morning. Delaware State Police have identified 26-year-old Mark Smith, of Harrington, as the man killed in a fiery collision.

According to the report, Smith lost control of his 1988 Mercedes on John J. Williams Highway near Maryland Camp Road, due to icy conditions. Police say the car ended up the in the path of a tractor trailer, after the impact both vehicles continued off the roadway into a field, where they became engulfed in flames.

Smith remained trapped in his vehicle, while the driver of the tractor trailer, 55-year-old Kim Smith, used his fire extinguisher to attempt to put out the flames and get Smith out of the Mercedes, unsuccessfully, according to Police.

Mark Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Kim Smith was wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the crash. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is reportedly still investigating this incident.
