Bayhealth Milford Temporarily Closes Inpatient Pediatric Unit

Posted: Updated:

MILFORD, Del. - A local hospital says they are temporarily closing down one of their inpatient units.

Bayhealth Milford Memorial says after discussing with pediatricians, they have temporarily stopped admitting patients to the pediatric inpatient unit. Officials tell us there have been no layoffs. They say the unity had only one pediatric nurse staffing the unity, and that nurse has been reassigned to another area of the staff.

The change started on January 1st, 2014, but the hospital is still evaluating and treating patients on site. Officials say the decision came, because Milford's Pediatric Department, has on average, just less than one patient per day.

Those pediatric patients needing to be hospitalized, will be transferred to Kent General Pediatric Department, or as necessary, transferred to a hospital specializing in pediatric care.
