DE Police Officer To Appeal Disciplinary Finding

Posted: Updated:

BETHANY BEACH, Del. - A Bethany Beach police officer plans to appeal a disciplinary decision that determined he used excessive force on a drunken driving suspect and falsified two police reports.

A judge dismissed assault charges against Lt. Richard Haden in a criminal trial, but he's been suspended without pay from the department since April.

His attorney, Julianne Murray, tells the Daily Times of Salisbury that she plans to challenge that disciplinary decision.

Town council members last week established a police grievance committee that will allow the appeal to be filed. That committee is made up of three former law enforcement officers and sitting town managers.

Bethany Town Manager Cliff Graviet says the committee is intended to give another layer of due process.
