RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Now that Gov. Bob McDonnell has outlined his state budget plans for legislators, Virginia residents get to have their say.

The Senate Finance and House Appropriations committees have scheduled public hearings across the state on the governor's proposed two-year, $95.9 billion spending plan. The hearings are set for Jan. 3, five days ahead of the start of the 2014 General Assembly.

The hearing at the Fairfax County Government Center will start at 10 a.m. The other hearings are set for noon at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, and the General Assembly Building in Richmond.

Speakers are limited to three minutes each and are required to register at the hearing site no earlier than an hour in advance.
