Controversy Continues Over Proposed Chicken Plant In Millsboro

Posted: Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del. - The controversy over the future of the former Vlasic pickle plant in Millsboro continues.

A group of residents fighting the proposed Allen Harim chicken processing plant, "Protecting Our Indian River," is claiming Vlasic's expired water contamination permit cannot be modified and applied to Allen Harim.

According to an email from the group, an EPA office is saying that DNREC is not in accordance with federal requirements to modify the permit.

In last week's hearing, DNREC officials stated plans to monitor the ground water. They claim the current contamination is both minimal and contained. The EPA office is reportedly saying they will continue to discuss future permitting actions with DNREC to ensure they are in accordance with federal requirements
