Officials Report 'Record Day' For Healthcare.Gov Website

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - Today was a record day for the federal health insurance website.

A spokesman for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services says there were approximately 850,000 visits to the site as of 2:00 PM on Monday. This is reportedly five times more than the same amount last Monday.

It comes on the day that was supposed to be the deadline for signing up for health insurance and getting coverage by January first. Now, officials have extended that deadline through Tuesday, although they are still advising people to take care of it beforehand.

In Maryland, where the deadline was extended to December 27th to get coverage by January 1, 2014, the most recent data shows that enrollments in qualified health plans increased to 7,435 people. In addition, reports show that more than 117,00 Marylanders are on track for coverage beginning January 1st under the Affordable Care Act.
