Red Light District Facing $500 A Day Fine

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A store at the center of a seemingly on going legal battle with a local city, could now be facing a $500 a day fine. The City of Salisbury says a December 11th inspection of the Red Light District Superstore revealed that 25% of the floor space of the establishment is being used for "adult entertainment" material.

The store reportedly has two options, make improvements to the facility to come into compliance or appeal to the Board of Zoning Appeals. These need to be completed by January 9th, or the owners will be fined $500 a day, until the property is in compliance.

Mayor Ireton said, "On the Red Light District, the city continues to be vigilant in making sure the facility is compliant. That vigilance will continue. Based on city research, businesses of this type have consistently found a way to skirt municipal law. That is the case when doing a simple online Google search and is indicative of many cases up and down the eastern seaboard."
