Job Request From DE Ex-Treasury Official Nixed

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware's budget director says a former deputy state treasurer who resigned after misuse of her state credit card will not be allowed to return to a guaranteed state job in another agency.

Officials said Friday that Erika Benner, a political appointee to the treasury post, will not be allowed to return to a guaranteed "merit system" job, which comes with certain protections that cover rank-and-file employees.

Despite the decision, Benner remains on the treasury payroll. She is on administrative leave after the recent termination of several months of medical leave.

State treasurer Chip Flowers had no direct comment on the decision by the Office of Management and Budget, but said he was concerned that budget officials continue to make public statements regarding confidential personnel matters.
