WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Officials are welcoming the head of the federal Centers for Disease Control to Delaware for a discussion on how to stem what is described as a diabetes epidemic in the state and nation.
CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden will join Gov. Jack Markell, state health officials and members of Delaware's congressional delegation on Friday to talk about strategies for fighting the spread of diabetes.
Among the topics to be discussed is a diabetes prevention program by the YMCA of Delaware.
Official says the goal of Friday's meeting is to examine the YMCA program's progress and explore how to create and strengthen partnerships with the medical community, insurance providers, community organizations and government.
