Rehoboth Beach Museum Seeks Expansion

Posted: Updated:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The Rehoboth Beach museum is filled with vintage bathing suits to Civil War era maps.

Now it's hoping to expand, but the city would need to help.

Museum director Nancy Alexander says they already paid half of a $250,000 loan. The museum is now asking city officials to forgive the rest of the money in order to build up the second floor.

"We have lots of things that reflect what I call the history of having fun in Rehoboth Beach and if we can finish this second floor in the next couple of years, more of those treasures will come out of storage more people will get a chance to see them," said Alexander.

Alexander says what may help is the increased foot traffic at the museum. So far this year, 3,400 people have stepped inside, up 1,000 visitors from last year.

Alexander tells WMDT the city will look over the plans at its next commissioners meeting this Friday.
