Majority put a clear diet plan, personalized coaching and more food choices on their wish lists for weight loss success
NEW YORK, Dec. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- If losing weight is on your wish list this holiday season, you're in good company. According to a new survey conducted by USamp of more than 1,000 U.S. adults, and released today by The Dukan Diet, 70 percent of Americans say they will make losing weight a New Year resolution for 2014 – and nearly as many (69%) say they have failed in previous diet attempts.
In the survey, 7 out of 10 Americans say having personalized coaching would help them be more successful in losing weight. Those who have been unsuccessful in keeping a previous weight loss resolution also cite a clear diet plan to follow (62%) and a wider range of food choices (40%) among their biggest must-haves for 2014.
According to internationally recognized nutrition adviser and author, Jacqueline B. Marcus, MS, RDN, LD, CNS, FADA, FAND, "New Year dieters often aim too high and don't see results fast enough, or they feel hungry and tired and don't exercise. They get bored with their food choices and are puzzled where to turn for support – either nutritional or emotional. To be successful with your weight loss resolutions, it's critical to have a proven game plan with realistic goals, foods and beverages you're excited to eat and drink, and a lifeline – a coaching resource to keep you on track, especially when motivation wanes."
Among the survey's findings:
"While there isn't one strategy that fits all, The Dukan Diet is a good example of a clear plan that helps dieters set a True Weight goal, make changes in eating habits with a foundation of more than 100 food choices and use a personalized coaching resource that is always available," said Marcus.
"Realizing a New Year resolution to lose weight is an ambitious yet attainable goal," says Marcus. "Start the year with a positive approach for a happier and healthier year ahead. Improve your success rate by selecting and following a defined, proven plan with built-in support."
This survey was conducted online within the U.S. by USamp on behalf of The Dukan Diet from November 15 – 19, 2013, among 1,012 adults ages 18 and older. Age, gender and region were balanced to reflect U.S. Census figures.
