Long Term Recovery Committee Makes Strides Rebuilding Crisfield

Posted: Updated:

CRISFIELD, Md. - When it comes to the homes recovering from Superstorm Sandy, officials with the Long Term Recovery Committee in Crisfield say they are making some major strides.

Pastor Phil Hubor, a consultant for the Long Term Recovery Committee, says the group has been able to put together a cohesive committee, and although they did not officially come together until January, they were able to have two homes fully restored by May.

Among their efforts, they have made a number of repairs on other homes, and have opened a "Camp Kairos," a place where work crews can come and have a place to stay for the week.

"We've had work crews come from Canada and California to spend a week in the communities to get to recovery so it's been an international effort," says Pastor Hubor.

"So far, we have achieved great progress when it comes to our clients and our cases," says Janelle West, a case manger for the Long Term Recovery Committee.

Pastor Hubor says they plan to hold a Camp Noah this summer to offer help for children involved in a disaster.

"The camping experience allows them to process what has happened to them, and to develop coping skills to get through the recovery."

Despite their efforts, Pastor Hubor says they can still use as much help as they can get. For more information on donations or volunteering, visit the Long Term Recovery Committee website.
