SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Corrections officials say a man serving time for raping a child has died.
The Department of Corrections said Monday that 46-year-old Paul J. Proper of Smyrna died Saturday at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna. Officials say he died after an illness.
Proper was serving a 20-year sentence for continuous sexual abuse of a child and first-degree rape of a child by a person in a position of trust. He had been sentenced in 2001.
Proper's body has been turned over to the State Medical Examiner's Office, as is standard procedure.
