DE State Fire Marshal's Office Investigates Lewes House Fire

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - The Lewes Fire Department says they responded to an attic fire on McFee Street in Lewes yesterday.

According to reports, the department was assisted by Rehoboth Beach, Milton, and Medic 104. The fire was reportedly in the chimney area, and was quickly contained, with most of the damage to the attic area. Officials say the incident occurred right at the end of the Lewes Christmas Parade and traffic was tied up around Lewes for most of the evening as hoses blocked Savannah Road.

According to officials withe Gale Force Cleaning and Restoration, the home has suffered major damage due to the fire, smoke and water. Emergency fire and flood restoration crews reportedly worked all through the night to board up and secure the property, and extract hundreds of gallons of water that were used to put out the fire from the fire fighters.

State Fire Marshall's office is reportedly investigating the cause. Damages are allegedly estimated at $200,000.
