UPDATE: Lewes Motel Fire Causes $250,000 In Damages

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - Officials are investigating a fire at a local motel that happened on Thursday night in Lewes.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire started around 10:45 PM, at the Red Mill Inn on the 16,000 block of Coastal Highway. When the Lewes Fire Company responded, they encountered smoke and fire coming from the roof of the middle structure of the three building complex.

Officials say the motel's alarm system alerted the occupants of the rooms to the blaze. The victims were moved to rooms in one of the unaffected buildings. No injuries were reported. Officials have estimated damages at $250,000.

The State Fire Marshal's Office has reportedly determined that the fire originated in the ceiling, but say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
