Safe Haven Dogs Memorialized By Kentucky Artist

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - Nineteen dogs euthanized at Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary just before it closed mid November are now memorialized on canvas.

A Kentucky based artist included the dogs in a project, called An Act of Dog, to paint portraits of 5,500 dogs, the number estimated are put down each day at shelters across the country.

The artist, Mark Barone and his partner Marina Dervan saw stories about the Safe Haven dogs on social networking sites, and collected pictures and information on them from local animal rights groups.

So far, Barone has completed about 4,000 portraits, and is working to find a location for the art show.
