Proposed Barking-Dog Ordinance Could Cost Sussex Co. $37,000

Posted: Updated:

SUSSEX CO., Del. - Sussex County council has re-signed a contract with the SPCA for dog control services, but it does not include money to enforce a "barking-dog" ordinance.

Council members originally discussed the ordinance in September and October, but then the idea was tabled. A spokesman for Sussex County says the council found out yesterday that it could cost an estimated $35,000.

The ordinance would fine pet owners between $25 and $75 for dogs who bark for at least 30 minutes straight without stopping.

The county's spokesman says the ordinance remains pending, and there is not yet a scheduled vote on the matter.
