Milford Winter Wonderland, 150 Decorated Christmas Trees For A Cause

Posted: Updated:

MILFORD, Del. - The holidays mean many things to many folks, and for one Milford family, it's all about tradition.  For Hank and Bonnie McCann, that tradition is A "Christmas in the Country" House Tour, complete with Santa, elves, snowmen and dozens of decorated and lit Christmas trees; a showing even a Grinch is sure to love. I got the grand tour Wednesday for a sneak peek into this year's festivities.

The display features small trees, tall trees, gold trees and bold trees.  There's a tree from the land of OZ, one with snowmen on the loose... Better yet, my personal favorite, a tree about Dr. Seuss. So, I had to ask the lady behind it all what inspires her? "People will have suggestions, or I might be out and see a tree or another display somewhere or that kind of thing," Bonnie said.

It's a Winter Wonderland, to say the least. With about 150 decorated trees and a fireplace vignette, complete with sugar plums dancing above my head, this place is dreamy. While it started more than a decade ago just for fun, it's turned into a project with a purpose. "About 5 years ago, someone approached me to have an open house for a charity involving cancer. It seemed like a good idea and I've been doing it ever since," said Bonnie.

So, is it the  upside down tree, or the only live tree in the bunch? Maybe it's the gingerbread tree, I'm not sure, it's just a hunch but, I was curious to know her favorite? Bonnie said with a chuckle, "I'm always asked that. I like them all. The Santa Clause tree or the one with red and white candy on it is a real eye catcher. I like them all."

The open house kicks off this Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and will run through Sunday, for one weekend only. The tours will benefit several area charities, including the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Ticket prices vary, depending on which day you take the tour you can find those prices broken down below:

- Thursday, December 5th 6:00-9:00 PM for $15

- Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th 5:00-8:00 PM for $10

- Sunday, December 8th from 4:00-8:00 PM for $10
