DNREC Reschedules Public Hearing On Vlasic/Pinnacle Site

Posted: Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del. - A public hearing about the redevelopment of a controversial property in Sussex County, has been rescheduled.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says they have rescheduled the public hearing about the former Vlasic Pickle site in Dagsboro, for Tuesday, December 17th at 6 PM, at the Millsboro Town Hall on Wilson Highway. The meeting had originally been set for December 4th, but that date has been changed to December 17th.

Allen M. Harim Foods has a brownfields agreement with DNREC to purchase the site, and turn it into a poultry processing plant. The brownfields development agreement will be discussed at the public hearing, along with a proposed plan of remediation by DNREC's Site Investigation and Restoration Section.

A panel of experts will be on hand to explain the permitting process, and the public health and environmental protection provided by these efforts. Staff from DNREC along with the Department of Health and Social Services' Office of Drinking Water will be there to answer any questions from the public.

Some residents claim that Vlasic left the property contaminated with carcinogens, and now they're fearful of what Allen Harim Foods will do to the Indian River, once they move in.
