Soldier Surprises Daughter During Christmas Performance

Posted: Updated:

DELMAR, Md. - The holidays are a time for families to come together, but it can be hard for those with a loved one in the armed forces.

Tonight, one soldier got the chance to give his five-year-old daughter a pretty early Christmas gift.

"I'm pretty excited that I got to meet my son and the rest of my family, now she's the only one left, says Derek Romano, an Army Private First Class soldier. "I've been hoping to plan it for a good month now, but you know flight dates are uncertain, so I didn't know if I'd actually be able to get to do it or not."

Luckily, Romano made it just in time. He surprised his five-year-old daughter, Kaylee, at her Christmas program in the Delmar Middle and High School building. While Derek had only been away for six months, the family says it is a Christmas present Kaylee will not forget.
