Public Urination May Result In Hefty Fine In Dewey Beach

Posted: Updated:

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Public urination may soon result in a pricier fine in Dewey Beach.

Some members of the town council are looking to increase the fine from 85 dollars to 200 dollars. With court fees, the fine could be more than 230 dollars.

An official with the Dewey Beach Police Department says the fine used to be higher when it was a criminal offense, but when the town added a civil offense, the fine dropped.

Police say public urination is one of the most common nuisance crimes, and they hope the higher fine passes in time for next summer.
