MD State Highway Admin. Holds Dover Bridge Public Info. Meeting

Posted: Updated:

EASTON, Md. - The Maryland State Highway Administration held a public hearing tonight to discuss plans for the new Dover Bridge.

SHA officials say the high-level bridge will go up south of the existing (MD 331) Dover Road Bridge over the Choptank River.

The proposed 2,020 foot-long bridge will reportedly have two twelve foot-wide lanes, eight foot-wide shoulders, and will stand more than fifty feet above the water.

Officials say one major reason for the construction is to address safety concerns related to the narrow roadway section.

Construction is set to begin in the summer of 2014, and two lanes of traffic will continue on the existing bridge until the new one is built.

SHA officials say the old bridge will stay in its location as a historic landmark, but will not accommodate any vehicle or pedestrian traffic.
