Athletes Shoot For The Stars At DE Special Olympics

Posted: Updated:

CAMDEN, Del. - For the next two weeks, Special Olympics athletes go for the gold in Delaware.

Special Olympics Delaware
off their annual basketball skills competition at Caesar Rodney High School on Tuesday as close to 200 participants showed off their dribbling, passing and shooting skills.

"Whether [the kids] do soccer in the spring, bowling in the winter or basketball this fall, or maybe all three, it is the opportunity they have that we all want when we play sports," said Jon Buzby, director of media relations for Special Olympics Delaware. "That's to be able to train, practice, get better and showcase your skills at a competition and hopefully come away with a gold medal.

"If not, it's still a great experience for them."

Sussex County athletes will compete again on Wednesday at Sussex Tech.
