Wicomico County To Launch Next "Live Healthy" Challenge

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Thanksgiving is just under three weeks away, and with a season of feasting and snacking ahead, Wicomico County wants you to stay healthy and active.

It's set to launch the Live Healthy Wicomico event Tuesday, called "Dashing Through the Holidays" activity challenge.

Teams can sign up online and log fitness activities that help the county reach a goal of one million minutes of movement.

With so much distraction ahead, how can people stay fit?

"During the holidays, it's a good time to set two types of goals: long term and short term," said Ashlyn Trehene, personal trainer at World Gym. "And you want to set multiple short term goals to help you stay with it all the way through."

And time for workouts can be short in the next few weeks, so Trehene says concentrate on more compact sessions.

"When you're doing your work out, to maximize your time, you want to do what's called a H.I.I.T. work out: high interval intense training," she said. "And that can be intervals on the treadmill or elliptical or your own body weight circuit."

To join the challenge, sign up at www.livehealthywicomico.org.
