UPDATE: Wicomico County Road Paving Starting Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO CO., Md. - A warning for drivers, starting Wednesday, public works will begin fixing up some roadways in Wicomico County. Nearly 12 miles of roads will be resurfaced starting on the east side making their way West. Crews will start at Sixty Foot Road from Route 50 to the Pittsville town line.

They will also pave bridge approaches on:
•       Morris Rd
•       Purnell Crossing Rd
•       Three Bridges Rd
•       Sheppards Crossing Rd
•       Bethel Rd
•       Richardson Rd

The contractors will also be paving:
•       Morris Leonard Rd
•       Dagsboro Rd
•       Rum Ridge Rd
•       Naylor Mill Rd

County Department of Public Works Director, Lee Beauchamp, said "This year's paving funds will be used to repair some of the most deteriorated roads in the County since the last major paving project was before the economic downturn five years ago. It was an important step that County Executive Pollitt and members of the Council took for this budget cycle by allocating an additional $1 million for road repairs. County Public Works intends to make these dollars count by incorporating the newest technology in roadway paving to allow these roads to last longer and reduce maintenance costs in the future."

Beauchamp says the construction project is long overdue, and without it, many of the roads would not have survived another season.

"It's a great opportunity, it will basically create a water barrier between the pavement and the sub base so it allows us to extend the life of the pavement another four to five years."

Work is expected to last about two weeks, pending weather conditions. Drivers should expect single lane closures with flaggers, impacting traffic.
