15 VA Soldiers ID'd At NY Revolutionary War Site

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A group working to preserve a New York military cemetery from the Revolutionary War says it has identified 15 soldiers from Virginia believed to be buried there.

The Friends of the Fishkill Supply Depot has been using muster rolls and other old documents to identify soldiers buried in unmarked graves on a parcel of privately owned land in New York's Hudson Valley. During the American Revolution, the area was home to the Fishkill Supply Depot.

The group announced the new identifications on Monday. The soldiers from Virginia died between 1778 and 1779.

The depot for George Washington's Continental Army was home to a sprawling complex of barracks, stables, blacksmith shops, hospitals, armories and stockades.

The Fishkill Supply Depot had the largest single burial ground of the Revolutionary War.
