Elderly Man Killed In College Park House Fire

Posted: Updated:

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Prince George's County fire officials say an elderly has been found dead after an early morning fire in College Park.

Firefighters were called to the 5200 block of Palco Place for a house fire about 5 a.m. Sunday. Fire officials say they encountered a difficult situation inside, with boxes and materials stacked from floor to ceiling in the home. That made it difficult for firefighters to move around.

An 80-year-old woman was able to get out of the two-story house. Fire officials say she was in serious but stable condition Sunday at a hospital.

An elderly man found inside the home is believed to be the 82-year-old homeowner. Officials say an autopsy is required to confirm the victim's identity.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.
