Sen. Tom Carper Speaks Out About Millsboro Chicken Plant

Posted: Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del. - The Sussex County Board of Adjustments voted "yes," in September, but Millsboro residents are still saying "no" to a new chicken processing plant at the old Vlasic pickle site.

The group, Protecting Our Indian River, is working with Erin Brockovich's consulting team, and is urging a full investigation of the plant, as fears rise over ground water pollution.

Now, US Senator Tom Carper is weighing in on the situation.

"When they return that water to mother earth, it will be a lot cleaner than when they took it out, so this is a clean up effort," says Senator Carper. "At the same time, it's a clean up effort that will provide 700 new jobs, and will provide a lot of chicken for us to eat."

Once Allen Harim takes ownership, it plans to have the chicken plant in operation sometime between the middle of 2015 and January 2016.
