DE State Fire Marshal's Office Investigating Home Fire

WILMINGTON, Del. - The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says they are investigating  a fire that heavily damaged a home in Wilmington and killed one person.

According to reports, the blaze, reported shortly after 1:00 PM, occurred in the 300 block of West Summit Avenue in Elmhurst off Maryland Avenue.  The Five Points Fire Company reportedly arrived on the scene with smoke coming from the dwelling. 

State fire investigators say they are searching for the origin and cause of the fire. One adult male was reportedly transported to the Christiana Hospital by New Castle County Paramedics and EMS. Officials say the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.

Reports say heavy fire damage was estimated at $75,000, and the investigation is continuing.
